During this time of quarantine and self-isolation, where everyone is encouraged to practice social distancing and to stay away from each other even when we’re at home, taking the effort to still keep up with social interactions is important to escape cabin fever and lift our spirits, especially during these trying times.

The coronavirus pandemic is surely a real problem dampening our spirits, but we can’t always feel like this because our mental health might take a toll. Thankfully, the beauty of video games is that a lot of them have socializing and teamwork built into their core game play. And what’s better is you don’t even have to be good at them since the vast amount of titles available today makes it very easy for the casual player to jump onboard and have fun with friends, even when we are all physically apart.

So fire up your gaming PC or console, connect online and have fun with your friends while we all wait for the pandemic to stop. Here are some of our best recommendations:

Currently the most popular video game in the world, Minecraft is a sandbox-type game that allows up to eight players to play alongside each other, where they can essentially build anything that they want to make. Think Lego meets fantasy games, combined with a graphical art style ala Roblox.

One of the most popular first-person shooters around today, Fortnite lets you join squads of up to four people, where you’ll team up and try to take down as many other online players as you can in a limited amount of time.

Friday 13th

Like the name suggests, the game puts you and your friends in your very own slasher movie, where one of your friends can be Jason Voorhees

while everyone else tries to hide from him. Think of it as an online hide and seek, except more exciting, even tense at times.

Stardew Valley

Prefer a more relaxing game? Stardew Valley has you covered. This game lets you and your friends essentially build a farm, with the tasks ranging from raising crops, taking care of animals, fighting monsters in caves and even courting a villager to be your partner. Expect hundreds of hours of game play.

Rocket League

One of the most popular indie game to break the market, Rocket League is essentially a physics-based online soccer, only instead of playing humans, you get to use rocket-powered cars. It’s as fun as it sounds, and we guarantee you and your friends will have hours’ worth of good fun.
