Although Yahoo!'s stock has actually done pretty well, most of its gains can be attributed to the prior management's investment in Alibaba (BABA) . Mayer herself mostly spent money, failed to revitalize the company and couldn't return Yahoo! to its glory days.
Maybe nobody could do it. But do executives get paid to try or paid to succeed? In Pinchai's case, it seems like the latter. For Mayer though, simply trying seems to have been enough.
Shares of Alphabet closed at $932.82 on Monday, up 0.9%.
There's a new ride-sharing platform to keep an eye on, as Gig starts to hit the streets.
[post_ads]The new platform rolled out in Oakland and Berkeley over the last weekend in April, according to SiliconBeat. Gig is a product of A3 Ventures, which is the venture capital branch of AAA -- the roadside assistance and insurance company.
When it comes to using the service, terms are pretty flexible. Rates start at $2.50 per mile, $15 an hour or $85 a day. Apparently, the vehicles are Toyota (TM) Priuses with bike racks.
Users can unlock these rentals with the app on their phone and use it until they're done. Once they finish the task at hand, they can leave it in any legal parking spot inside of what the company calls a "HomeZone."
This "HomeZone" spreads throughout a big portion of Oakland and Berkeley and even includes the airport in Oakland.

This is a convenient way for customers to finish using the vehicle, especially since similar services require you to return the car to its starting location. At $85 a day though, it could prove pricy. Even just a few trips a month would easily wipe out the savings of not having a car.
However, only using for a few hours a month one could certainly see the value.
