Today on the way to office, I came across a guy who had a set of earphones that looked expensive. Good for him, but the only problem was that he was wearing it in such a way that I could hear his playlist sitting across from him in peak hour traffic noise. Sadly, he was not utilizing his earphones effectively. dearJulius.com gives you tips on how to wear your own set of earphones correctly considering most of us carry one pair while traveling.
Rule 1
Find the fit, then get the function right
The rule of thumb here is to get the earphones that fit you correctly. You may be tempted to use the same pair of earphones that came with your mobile or portable device, but chances are that it might not be the right fit for your ears. Indian ears are different than others so looking for the correct fit is essential. Find a brand that addresses your needs perfectly. It took me a while to figure out that Sennheiser worked best for me even on my iPod Touch. While it was traumatic to keep aside the bundled Apple earphones, the Sennheiser was a vast improvement that literally brought music to my ears.
Rule 2
Inserting the earphone correctly
There is a way of putting on your earphones. Identify which pod is meant for which ear. You can look for L and R marks to identify which one goes into the left and right side of your ears. The earphone has to be pushed inside the ear until you can feel it’s held in position and will not fall off. Do not keep it loose and hanging as it will affect your hearing by making you turn up to volume and cause ear stress.
Rule 3
Placing the earphone so it doesn’t fall off
The right way of putting on your earphone is to stretch your ear canal so that the earphone sets against the cavity in your ear before going back to its original shape, thereby locking in the earphone when its released from your grip. You can also use silicone or plastic lobes that typically come attached with earphones to block out outside noise. However, ensure that you clean them well before inserting as sweat stains can lead to bacterial infection.
Rule
Adjusting the volume
You will notice a significant difference once you place your earphone correctly in your ears. This means you have blocked out outside noise to a great extent and can listen to your favorite music or audiobook clearly and crisply. When you can hear your music with enough bass and least outside interference, consider the job done.
Rule 5
Storing your set properly
As important as it is to wear them properly, it is equally necessary to store your earphones well too. Fold your earphones in such a way that they do not get tangled and keep the ear-buds clean at all times. Put them in their designated cases. Consider buying it if your earphones do not come with a storage solution. Keep your earphones free from fungus and bacteria as well as sweat stains by cleaning it regularly.
