It’s easy enough for any electronics company to build and sell a “safe” laptop. Install an HD screen, a big enough hard drive, a fast enough processor, and one machine looks and runs much like another. As a result, there’s no shortage of good-enough laptops on the market. But ASUS rejected the easy road with the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo, creating a sort of hybrid computer that brings together a traditional laptop with an inbuilt tablet screen.

Yes, the 2-in-1 laptop is hardly a new concept, but the ZenBook Pro Duo offers much more than the average convertible laptop.

ASUS calls it a gaming computer as its powerful enough to run any current game, thanks to an Intel Core processor and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card. Add a 4K screen with a Harmon/Kardan sound system and this ZenBook Pro Duo has the right stuff to serve as a productivity tool when not playing first-person shooters or RPGs.

In addition to the main display, there’s a connected, 4K ScreenPad Plus UHD touchscreen that can function in conjunction with the main display. On the software side, the ZenBook Pro Duo ships with Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, Bluetooth 5.0, IR webcam, one Thunderbolt connector, three USB-Cs, two USB Gen 2s, a standard HDMI and audio combo jack.

What We Liked about the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop:

When selecting our favorite feature, there was really only one option: the interconnected, 14-inch, 4K ScreenPad Plus UHD touchscreen that meets the main monitor at the laptop’s hinge point. That second screen can function with the main display or serve as a touchscreen tablet, depending on the application. At the very least, the screens can always work as paired monitors, allowing the user to split application use from screen to screen.

If you’ve been missing your second monitor as you work from home, this is a great compromise.

Most Unique Feature: Flexibility

No, we’re not referring to its laptop, tablet mashup design. We like the fact that something the manufacturer insists is a gaming computer has every bit of the processing power and memory capacity to serve as much more. While it has all the bells and whistles needed to run the latest entertainment titles, the ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop can also serve as a fully serviceable computer for any student, professional or complete household.

What We Didn’t Like About the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop:

With its 15.6-inch main monitor and another 14-inch touchscreen beneath that, there are a lot of delicate parts to this laptop. At six pounds in weight and offering an angular design to its physical casing, there could be durability issues. If the buyer does choose to put the ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop to work doing double or triple duty as a gaming computer, home computer and business laptop, he or she should tread carefully and avoid too many dings.

The Verdict: Is This Really the “Laptop of Tomorrow”?

Though it’s not cheap with a price tag just shy of $3,000, the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop offers enough processing power to handle more than just what its “gaming computer” description demands. A lot of so-called 2-in-1 laptops promise to do it all, but this powerful laptop really can.

Ironically, this might be the first laptop that really deserves the designation “2-in-1 laptop,” yet it’s powerful enough that the name really doesn’t fit. Most 2-in-1s leave quite a bit to be desired.

And when you add in the impressive dual-screen feature, there’s a lot to love about the new ZenBook. If you’re in the market for a premium laptop that can handle gaming and more, the ZenBook is well worth it.

Where To Buy the ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop:

A visit to the ASUS homepage will send you off to a number of retailers willing to sell you a ZenBook Pro Duo Laptop. All of the usual suspects are involved, so let the buyer be watchful and hunt down the best price.
