The Xbox Games with Gold May 2020 selection has a little something for everybody: racing, sensible sports, exterminating heathens, building an unholy empire. The lineup for May is led by two Xbox One games, V-Rally 4 and Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Marty, and two Xbox 360 games that will work just fine on your system thanks to backwards compatibility: Sensible World of Soccer and Overlord 2.

Xbox Games with Gold May 2020
V-Rally 4 - available May 1 to May 31 on Xbox One
After a 16 year gap, V-Rally 4 brought the rally racing series to the modern day with a slightly arcadey take on the notoriously demanding motorsport. While it's still committed to a realistic presentation, V-Rally 4's more forgiving handling could make it easier to approach if you've bounced off games like Dirt Rally in the past - or if you're just not in the mood to haul your racing wheel out of storage. V-Rally 4 features more than 50 vehicles and demanding routes set all over the world. On top of the standard rally mode, you can also try out Extreme-Khana mode for precision challenges, Hillclimb to take on rough ascents, and more.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr - available May 16 to June 15 on Xbox One
This Diablo-inspired action RPG trades out the depths of a dark fantasy world for the eternal sci-fi warfare of Warhammer. You play as an Inquisitor who travels from world to world, snuffing out the enemies of the God-Emperor and… well, there's a lot more very Warhammer-y sounding words in the premise. The important part is that it's basically Diablo but with guns, a cover system, and environmental destruction, all with a range of customizable character classes. The ways players fight shape the future of the battle in the game's Caligari sector, letting you leave your (probably burning) mark on the Warhammer world.
Sensible World of Soccer - available May 1 to May 15 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
The sequel to the classic soccer game returns with enhanced graphics (but not too enhanced) and support for online multiplayer. You can play a quick pick up game or experience a detailed simulation with one of the most influential manager modes in sports games. They really don't make sports games like this any more, and not just because all the players are about a dozen pixels tall.
Overlord 2 - available May 16 to May 31 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
You play the bad guy in a fantasy world that, frankly, deserves even worse in Overlord 2. While you have direct control over your own scary looking bad guy, you'll get most of your work done with the "assistance" of your evil minions. Think of it like Pikmin if you were trying to take over the world instead of putting your space ship back together. It would all get a bit grim if Overlord 2 didn't have a surprisingly good sense of humor - not every joke lands, of course, but it is a nicely twisted fantasy tale written by Rhianna Pratchett.
